Why remote work from Nigeria works

Nigeria is on West Africa Time (UTC+1). That puts you in step with the UK and Europe for most of the working day, and gives a few hours of overlap with the US East Coast in the afternoon. International teams hire from Lagos, Abuja and across the country, especially for engineering, customer support, sales development, finance operations and virtual assistance.

"Remote" does not always mean "anywhere", though. Always check that a listing accepts candidates in Nigeria before you spend time on an application.

How USD pay works

Most remote employers pay Nigerian talent in one of three ways:

  • Direct transfer in USD to a domiciliary account.
  • A payout platform such as Wise, Payoneer or Grey, where you receive USD and convert when you choose.
  • Through Tamborin, where the employer pays us in USD and we pay you monthly in USD or naira.

Open and fully verify your receiving account before your first payment is due; new accounts often have low limits until verification is complete. Compare fees and exchange rates, and keep yearly statements for your tax records. If you work as an independent contractor, check your obligations with a qualified accountant.

Who hires remotely from Nigeria

You will find three broad kinds of employers:

  • Startups and scale-ups in the UK, Europe and the US that hire engineers, designers, support and sales talent across Africa.
  • African tech companies with distributed teams that hire across countries.
  • AI training and expert networks, such as Micro1 and Mercor, which offer project-based work for engineers, writers and subject experts.

Browse the companies hiring on Tamborin and the Nigeria jobs page to see who is hiring right now. Each listing shows its eligible countries, working hours and pay where the employer shares it.

How to apply and get shortlisted

  1. Lead with proof. Put your role, timezone and two measurable results at the top of your CV.
  2. Write your hours in UTC. "Available 08:00–17:00 UTC" lets any employer compare instantly.
  3. Tailor a short note. Two or three sentences linking your experience to the role beat a long generic cover letter.
  4. Show your setup. Mention your internet and backup power briefly; employers often ask.
  5. Answer screening questions carefully. They are often used to shortlist before anyone reads your CV.
  6. Follow up once. A polite message after about a week is fine.

Avoid remote-job scams

Never pay to get a job, buy "training materials" or move money for someone else. Check the company's website and contact details, and use the report option on any Tamborin job page that looks suspicious.
