0 / 6When coworking is worth it
Working from home is free, until it is not. A coworking space earns its price if your power or internet is unreliable, if you need a quiet room for interviews, or if working alone is wearing you down.
What to check before you pay
- Backup power. Ask what happens in an outage and how long the backup lasts.
- Internet. Ask for the speed and whether there is a second provider. Run a speed test and a short video call on a trial day.
- Call rooms. Phone booths or bookable rooms matter more than a nice lounge.
- Hours. If you work US hours, check evening access and security.
- Getting there. A great space that takes two hours in traffic will not get used.
Start with a day pass
Most spaces sell day passes. Try two or three before committing to a membership, and go on a busy weekday so you see the real noise level.
Mix and match
Many remote workers use a part-time membership: home for focused work, the coworking space for interviews, presentations and days when the power is out. Ask whether your employer's equipment or wellbeing budget covers it.
