About the Role 

Brave is looking for a Product Design Intern, preferably located within 3 or less time zones from San Francisco, to be part of our design team this summer 2021. Over the course of this 8-week paid internship, you’ll be exposed to the full product design and development process at a fast-paced startup. You’ll conduct user research, ideate, prototype, and refine your designs. Mentorship and guidance is embedded into the internship, but you will also be expected to operate independently as a self-motivated and passionate designer. The ideal candidate already possesses a good balance of visual and interaction design skills, with a deep-seated curiosity for understanding users. 

Pay: This is a paid internship. You will be paid an hourly rate of $18/hour. 

Program length: June 15, 2021 – August 15, 2021 (8 weeks) 

Location: Fully remote 

Responsibilities 

  • Design user experiences across various platforms including web, desktop, and mobile, using iterative design methods 
  • Communicate your ideas and rationale with user flows, static mock-ups, and prototypes 
  • Translate complex ideas into easily understandable and easy to use experiences ● Conduct and support user research efforts and metrics analysis to inform your designs 
  • Produce specifications for your own designs 
  • Participate in and contribute to design critiques 
  • Adhere to and help evolve Brave’s design system 

Required Skills and Experience 

  • Pursuing a degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Communication Design, Interaction Design, or related program 
  • A portfolio of product design work that includes process, any completed user research, rationale, prototyped design explorations, and lessons learned
  • Knowledge of design fundamentals including layout, color, typography, and tone ● Understanding of the latest design trends and UX best practices 
  • A user-centric and empathic approach to interaction design and information architecture 
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) skills 
  • Able to give and receive structured feedback 

Nice-to-Have 

  • Background knowledge or interest in user research methodologies 
  • Experience with user testing and feedback collection 
  • Familiarity with current web technologies (HTML5, CSS3 and Javascript) ● Experience using Figma (our primary tool) 
  • Basic prototyping skills using Figma, Keynote or other tools 
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator 
  • Enthusiasm for Brave’s mission
